Food for fuel?

People are eating cookies made of dirt in Haiti, and people from Thailand, Mexico, Egypt, Pakistan, the US and beyond are rumbling and making it clear that the present rising food prices are in no way acceptable; people need to eat. Governments are failing to act, predictions all point to the problem getting worse, and the crisis is showing no signs of slowing down.  Perhaps war is inevitable in some of the poorer nations affected, but now even the more developed ones are seemingly headed down a dangerous path.

Sound familiar at all?

If you look back at the periods before most wars, going back to the middle ages and even to ancient times, times of great peril and horrifying war are preceded by food shortages and failure of those in charge to deal with it.  Food is not something people mess around with, stand where you may on somethings but people have to eat.  From the French revolution on, populations that aren't getting basic food rations are liable to cause some problems.

The pursuit of ethanol as a full substitute for oil is wreaking havoc on the food supply across the world.  Farms for basic food crops like grain are being replaced by corn farming for not just food but for fuel.  History will likely show the idiocy and consequences of this current trend; impeding on the vital food supplies like this to "save the world," through alternative fuel is madness.  The results are already taking hold, it is no doubt a huge aspect of these food shortages and price hikes. Is it worth it? Absolutely not!  People need food and the way to fix the so called environmental and energy crisis is not like this.  NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN FOOD!

Wake up world, this is a dangerous trend that needs to be halted asap.
